Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Now, now - that's not quite what I said! Junk miles are what I'm running at the moment - grey zone, zone 3, "natural pace" all that nonsense stuff. That goes out the window when I'm following a plan - I do what I'm told because it works!

It’ll be interesting to see what the outcome of tonight’s track session is larkim. Riggys, do you have anything you’re training for atm? Handy you can balance work with family and running.

Cheers guys, will keep you posted on the good, bad and ugly.

The goal used to be a championship start at VLM but not any more, I’d like to get in the top ten for snowdonia marathon one day and ultimately a sub 3 marathon (not at snowdonia!)

I work 4 on 4 off and when I’m ‘on’ Im on call so got to be within 4 minutes of the station with an alerter. It’s a quiet station, so I rarely get interrupted during a run, I can always finish off at the gym in work - I consider myself very luck to be able to do this. The longest run I’ve done on call is 17M.

70mpw sounds like a lot to me too, I have no idea how many miles would get me to 3:15, I’d like to see what I can achieve without putting a figure on it, but that wouldn’t work really.

What strength training do you recommend alongside P&D? I was doing Body Beast but it’s 5 days a week and a bit too much, I’m think 3 days of full body workouts with 5kg-7kg dumbbells, resistance bands and 20kg barbell for legs? I do enjoy insanity but the intensity is like an extra speed session #clueless

MB, you'll get polarised answers on strength and conditioning here! I believe in 2-3 times per week gentle, lightish weights or body weight only, lower body and core. Others do nothing and run faster and less injured. Go figure!

larkim, I only do junk now :-P

All the really good runners & coaches recommend S&C.

Whether or not people like me ignore that and get by fine without doesn't mean that people like me wouldn't be a lot faster and more injury resilient if we did it though!

I need to think about pace for tonight now. Will be windy, but perhaps try to keep 88s laps going for an honest 3000m pace. Should be OK for the first 4x400, but not sure about the rest!

Just clocked your level of ambition there MB - top 10 at Snowdonia would be rapid, I reckon champs start at London would be a more achievable goal! Nothng like aiming high though!!

Hope the weather isn’t as miserable as it is here where you are Larkin. 3:30 is average time for top 10 women ( I meant against the females).

Marchbanks my goal is a marathon in April was going to be Boston Lincolnshire but I am thinking of changing to one on the same date but only 20 mins from home. Won’t be as fast as it’s got quite a bit off road in it.
