If you do the maths with triangles etc you'll probably find that wiggling around doesn't buy you as much distance as you might expect Brunski.
Loving the ambition though of running well "virtually".

I think that approach sounds more of a distraction B. Better running in a group if thats an option.

You could maybe set off a couple of mins behind and slowly reel them in Brunski. I would also think of a way of extending the loop at a junction, even at the cost of an extra u-turn. You may find they stretch out into a line you can work your way up steadily, before adding an extra bit to return to the back. I usually loop round my wife when we go running together, but the sharp u-turns aren’t ideal at race pace.
Plans don’t always survive contact with the enemy though!

Like Baz, I would prefer running in a group, even if that meant being 8-10 minutes slower than I was capable of. However, 1.7 miles looks close to the likely distance between you and the slowest runner in the group. Lapping at least one before the end gives you something to aim for, but it's a bit of a bummer for the person that you lap. Whatever you decide, be prepared to adapt, as jda pointed out things can easily change, I always think of Mike Tyson's "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth".

It's like each of you are echoing my thoughts. Good to hear from others though.
I may start just after, there's a little bit I can add on (depending on traffic), but I don't think I'll bother with the weaving as GPS will probably just even it out and I'll lose out on distance against just running in/around the group.

Yeah it would be funny if you zigzagged and ended up with the same GPS distance for all the extra effort.
Funny for the others, anyway

Sorry just seen the answer is yes. Seems like 2:55 pace and pick up might be the best way? You might even have a few that want to pick it up with you rather than potentially killing them early?

Obviously if you're trying to smash your PB a different plan is needed.
If you go with the pick up plan, somewhere from halfway onwards, you should at least be able to coax the faster guy to go with you?

I agree SPR, reckon if I slowly start pulling away from around 10 miles I may well get some company. I’m not desperate for a PB but I want an honest run that reflects whatever shape I’m in, at the moment I’d say somewhere around 2:50 but I’ve been here before and failed to execute the final miles... Ticking the first 10 off at a slightly slower pace/lower effort might be just the ticket.
Definitely discounting the zig zagging jda, I’d be leaving myself wide open to ridicule during and afterwards. It’s the sort of thing that gets remembered too 😂
