Don't know whether that was just for me, but it showed up for me as soon as I posted.

Regarding London, I thought an announcement is due on 7 August?

Don't know what happened there, I also had part of the post to SPR.

That would be as I would expect it SPR. I agree that the speed for 800m is likely to significantly decline as you get into your 40's. The WR goes 1:43, 1:48, 1:49, 1:58, 2:02, 2:08 from M35 to M60.

So what you're saying BR is I should start thinking about moving up to marathon? ;-)

Absolutely SPR. If you can convert those shorter distance times you would have a seriously good marathon.

Lol, true but TBF, Bolt doesn't do a distance that good marathoners are usually good at as well.

No idea whether I'll ever race marathons. ATM there's still more I'd like to do at as short as probably 400m to be even considering it.

Did have a vague notion of doing the Commonwealth marathon in 2022 (not a full raced effort) given it's supposed to be mass participation and is in Brum. Probably wrong time of the year for someone that does track though. Probably need to do HM next year to give that vague notion a chance.

Shorter distance goals are still calling though so until I'm satisfied that I've done all I can at those, I doubt I'll be moving up as a racer.

You're right jda. I think even with elite 800/1500m runners the conversion may not necessarily be good. There are some runners, such as Steve Ovett, who managed an untrained/unprepared 65 minute 1/2 marathon, who would convert well. Seb Coe wouldn't have done so well, even if his dad had allowed him to do anything longer.

I wouldn't necessarily expect a 800/ 1500m type to convert well. 1500/ 5000 is more likely to (which was what my list of athletes on the previous page consisted of).

Putting it simplistically, if your 1500m pace is more down to 800m speed than 5000m strength, you're unlikely to convert to marathon.

So Laura Muir is a good candidate for a decent marathon as 1500/5000 are her strengths while she can still run a decent 800m
