You're right Baz, 3 x 2m sessions can be 'better' in the sense of a way to get more of that session done without it getting over-hard. But I think to start out it's easier to really understand where you are to go for a shorter no-break run (4m initially, then 5m, say) and repeat for a few weeks. Increase session total work after that by splitting -by that stage you know what the pace you need to slot in at is.
Well, I am 'running' again. But not for any particular reason or goal. And not very much. But I do like feeling fit(*) again.
(*) relative to normals, not you lot.

I like that purposeful approach - rather than thinking about runs being "training" for the progress that they'll confer, thinking about them as "testers" or "sighters" for what sort of form you're in.
The age old issue is setting training paces "correctly", and whilst I probably fret about that more than others do, if you get it wrong the psychological impact of "failing" to hit training paces in the first few weeks of a marathon build up could be quite damaging.
One thing I've not done in the last few weeks is any sustained effort running. I've done a few bits of speed, without any great purpose other than to entertain or join in with the family, but I've been nervous of exposing my current level of fitness to myself! I should probably follow PTBs suggestions above, at least for a couple of runs over the next 10 days or so, and see how close I can get to achieving my aspirational 10m pace for a 4-5m distance so that I don't come unstuck in weeks 1 and 2 of P&D where I won't be able to avoid tempo or MP running.

larkim, I have no plans to start a training plan. London have said 28th July for their next announcement. If its going ahead then I will take it from there but doubt if it will be a sub 3 attempt.

Thanks all, food for thought. I suppose I should add that I've been training to HR the last 10-11 weeks and planning to continue to do so until the end of July, which will be 3 months (i.e., all my runs except that 5k have been to HR). That is the reason I had no idea what pace to go out and I ended up being too cautious early on. I'm definitely seeing progress with the likes of 5mins being knocked off my regular 10-mile routes at the same effort/HR. Then my plan is to add some 80/20 sessions in (maybe more like 90/10 - I'll see) in August, but keeping the mileage consistent if I can. I was thinking of doing some kind of 10-mile solo time trail. 16 laps of a flat industrial estate - whoo hoo! And adding things like 5x1k or 3x2-mile, and as was mentioned some kind of tempo runs. I don't think I've ever done MP as part of a long run but it's something I probably need to do. But I really want to keep it at 80/20 (or 90/10) as if I veer too much from that I think I'll possibly get injured and undo my progress.
In terms of a predictor, what I really want is a flat Half (or a 20-miler) to enter as I think off my training I could do okay, which is way better than a 5k for predictions. But it doesn't appear that's likely any time soon.

Anyone have experience with the Tanda prediction system, looks at average training miles and pace on a rolling 8 week basis to formulate an projected time.

Expecting Chicago (11th Oct) to be cancelled or if it isn't I will cancel, but I'm still going to start a P&D plan in 10 days just for 'fun' and in case of CV19 miracles.

Paul N, I look at Metathon regularly, which uses Tanda . That's currently predicting 3:39 for me which I do think is out. Feb/March I did two doubles of around 3:45-3:50 both days (give or take), and although I've not ran long since then I feel I'm in better shape than that. I also did 3:40 in January after a very, very poor Nov/Dec/January due to illness. Back in March time I was struggling to get under 21:30 for a 5k effort at parkrun. Do you feel it's accurate for you? It is an interesting concept.

I think Tanda predicts very well for WW.
My own experience is that I usually outperform its predictions as I run a lot of my easy miles very easily.

Sorry Baz, what's WW (I bet it'll be obvious once you say!)? Yes, I'm running a lot of mine very easy - i.e., 10min/miles or slower if it's a hilly route. I think that is confusing Metathon.

IIRC even WW was slightly concerned that Tanda was making him run a certain pace due to known targets.
