Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That's exactly how I approached it Cam. Thought I could do 3:10, got 3:12 (though actually it still wasn't easy!) And then over the next years / mara cycles, went 3:09, 3:05, 3:02 then 2:57, just "chipping away" like you said. Sounds sound. Good luck! :-) G

Never had a coach but IMO they should be ok with you questioning and wanting to understand. It's ok to ask why.

I'm hoping that running in the hills will help with Manc and London because there is pretty much no flat around here at all! Even the canal has some pretty steep locks :-o

Don’t worry SPR I always question. I’ve just checked stats for the Basingstoke canal and I’m surprised to find out there’s 19 miles with just 1 lock ! If I run the other way which I have done as a run/commute previously there’s 17 locks over 4 miles. No wonder that’s been hard work. Despite my coach advocating flat long runs there’s still a weekly hill reps session to built strength. I had to abandon today’s session due to the lurgy.

Hope you get well soon Cam.

I was going to Lol at Kinky's locks on the canal being "hilly" but then on the Glasgow to Edinburgh 55 mile race I remember the 100ft climb (or whatever it is) between the Forth and Clyde canal and the Union canal at Falkirk where they join, being a mountain! :-) G

Lock inclines are usually quite disruptively steep, even if they are not really that big individually. The Birdgewater canal which I can get to in about 5 minutes in the car has a 28 mile stretch with no locks at all, so if I ever fancy an out and back 56 pan flat miler (!), I'd be there...

In the 55 mile race, it's 32 flat, one short hill, 23 miles flat. Can't really complain! :-) G

I run alongside the Chesterfield canal quite a lot as its only a mile or so from home. The elevation graph always has a elongated U shape due to the locks on the canal (and the mile mainly down hill to hit and last mile up hill from it)
Yesterday was the (in)famous 3*1600 (or in my case 1 mile) P+D last set of efforts. Aimed for 6:19 to 6:27 (based on current 5k time) pleased to run 6:12,6:15,6:17 quite a bit quicker than the same session prior to Boston UK in April (6:27,6:29,6:30).
Working the next four nights so going to do the 13 miler today. As I will be missing remembrance Sunday I have planned a route taking in 5 local war memorials as my form of remembrance (and probably a couple of mining ones as well).

Feeling lonely on the sidebar at the moment but great pic on it

I only learned yesterday that pictures could go in a sidebar :-)

Good session riggsy. You sound like you have a healthy confidence.
