Good luck sorting your head out WW - no reason to feel bad about Snowdonia, as you rightly say. That's a particularly unusually profiled run (!) and whilst I know some things that for me didn't go particularly right on the day I'm not treating any of them as being things that would affect a "normal" marathon. I think you're finding the right balance of setting a confidently challenging target, and having the appropriate levels of nervousness about achieving it. Nowt wrong with that!

I managed 1;43 at the Big Half despite running with a very sore hamstring (sliughtly foolish in hindsight!) so in thoery I coul still aim for a 3:30. I'm doing lots of power walking (12/13 min miling) at the moment so my fat burning abilities should be improving! I've also been Watt biking to keep my leg turnover up.

SPR ,hope you get on top of things. part of my problem was persevering with the wrong physio for too long before I saw someone who identified the cause and started to address that rather than deal with where the pain was being felt.
Jovi, hope you get sorted soon also.
Ive not decided on my own Alloa target yet...tonights run will guide me towards that

HappyG I think Alloa is still my PB course; if not it’s close to being so! Been training pretty well and weather looks spot on at the moment. I will have a mini taper and see how the legs feel!

Good to see lots of interaction and chat with a few new members targeting 3:15.
I missed the chat on conversation rates, I think mine was 1:32 to 3:14 but the 1:32 was a bit out of date so should have been closer to sub 90 but never attempted a half all out last year.
Got diagnosed with shingles at the docs today, explains why I have felt so poorly this month, starting to feel a bit better and happy not to have a chest infection but still annoyed at the timing and nature of the condition. They have said I'm through the worse of it now so I can start thinking about building training back up over the next few weeks.
Will probably still run the mid April 10k but have to be realistic about time goal after losing 3 weeks of training! Hoping to get out a few runs by the end of this week and then a more normal week next week but was told not to do too much too soon and looking at a couple of months before proper full recovery!
Glad I don't have a spring marathon or that would have been a major setback.

When I first appeared on here with an 89:02 half, I remember being advised that sub 90 was about borderline for 3:15. Maybe that is too cautious / pessimistic, and clearly there are runners who through experience find they convert better and simply stronger at the longer stuff than others. But I reckon it's not a bad benchmark for a confident 3:15 attempt.
Bad luck on the shingles Sjjh - that can be horrendous I believe. Hope your recovery is swift!

Sorry to hear about the shingles, not to second-guess the doc but a bit surprised at encouragement to exercise as I thought stress was likely to make it worse. My wife had it a while back and was properly knocked back for a good while IIRC.

I'll be careful, she said my body had fought it off and did say it would take a couple of months to get back to normal. Maybe i'm being too optimistic but happy to have a reason for feeling so bad recently so will take that as a positive and see how it goes.

Sjjh - I’ve had shingles and it was pretty awful. You’ve done well to stay upright whilst suffering but it can knock you for six. Good luck with a speedy return to 100% but be take your time.
Time for me to stick my hat in the ring for the sidebar please. Taper time sees me in decent nick for Boston USA in a couple of weeks. Sub 3.15 maybe ambitious on the course, but if we get a break with the weather I’ll certainly be going for it.

Ooh, nice one Steve. 3:15 at Boston would be impressive. Go for it. I'll wish for a good westerly wind for you (and me!) G
