Sorry, guys, but luck is involved with a race as long as a marathon.

Threw the P&D recovery plan out of the window a little today, but no harm done. Only my second ever race in spikes (and my first one in spikes that fit!). Didn't bust a gut, three lapper for a 6 mile XC race in the Manchester League, each lap was quicker than the previous and had a nice even pace (compared with eldest son who went out confidently at 5:42 pace and brought it home at 7:30s!). Officially the first XC race I've actually enjoyed, just cruising through people all the way to the end.

HR was quite elevated compared to perceived effort though, presumably that's the lack of proper recovery showing, so I'll stick more diligently to the few weeks of easy running for the next few weeks. But pleased the XC season opener has gone well with just 6 days since Chester!

Avoiding bad luck probably is required - you don't want to twist an ankle on a discarded bottle, or get tripped from behind etc. But I'm not sure "good luck" is needed to run a good marathon, surely?

That why you train for a dozen weeks to remove as much luck as possible.

Run well tomorrow :-)

Personally, I don't think going into any race thinking luck needs to play a significant part is good state to be in mentally.

Might need to revise my estimate out a bit - despite the BBC insisting it's a 8mph wind here, it's actually blowing a right hoolie. Bugger and blast :-(

Maybe it'll be a tail wind gus. Run well!

Is there a live tracker for SS? Do we know his number etc?

What a Sunday looks like when there's no marathon being run or planned...
