Oscar the grouch
Ha ha SC - good use of Larks own arguments against him. :-)

Just remembered, when I went to get my bag, I was one of the low numbers (159) and one of the first back to the bag store. One of the kids there asked me if I was an Elite Runner. I said no I wasn't but thanked her for asking and mistaking me for one :-)

The bag helpers were pupils at my wife's school - any reports of bad behaviour, and I'll get them in detention!

Puts things into context a little. A metric marathoner sadly passed away during the race.

That is so sad. When I was leaving the course an ambulance was arriving with lights flashing and then I heard it depart when I was walking towards the town centre and I was worried that someone was unwell. As you say, puts it all in to perspective.

PS, the bag helpers were great, I loved being an Elite for a few moments, they had a bag of sweets that were for elites and they let me have one.

FR - Agree the time to recover will be longer for longer events but the doing something rather than nothing can still apply as Curly has said.

Impressive how pervasive strava has become (I know there are some luddites on here that don't use it ;-) )

I created a "segment" to match the route we took this year at Chester, as it was different to previous years. It has so far matched 988 runners, and ranked me 172. Given that I finished about 300th and there were about 2700 runners taking part, that's over 1 in 3 that use the service, and a bigger proportion of the "faster" runners using it too.

Much as I like Fetch's flexibility etc, I'm still a fan of Strava.

If recovery from longer events happened in the same timeframe as shorter events, I might have done Brum half this weekend.

Hunts - Who knows what I could have run that day. I was pretty cautious as my first mara. Done a 1:25 half in the campaign so a 3:10 was probably (in hindsight) a little conservative! The 2nd was the opposite!

I don't use strava and as it transpires my garmin malfunction would have meant I missed it anyway !
