XC is fantastic for marathon runners. Especially as it is often on Saturdays - doing a long run the day after on tired legs will help you boys get those +ve splits down

I was auto-lapping just about 10s before most of the markers, but also on the lookout for last year's markers as I'd spotted them when I'd done the training runs.
25 was definitely odd, the poster was on the corner and I thought 3:13:XX was on at that point, but the line was a long way down the road.
Just had a better look at the pacers strava efforts. When I'd seen their details earlier, I'd been a bit concerned that one of them was a "triathlete", and seemed to do more cycling than running. It turns out it looks like he had an harder day at the office than I did, which I think I picked up whilst we were running - he stopped holding the pacer racket up, and just had the demeanour of someone who was finding it a bit harder than he should have done. At 4 miles his lap HR was 143, crept up to 153 by 10 miles, 158 by 15 miles and then 164 at 20 and 170 by 25 miles, with 175 as he got across the finish line in 3:15:00. Kudos to him for sticking to it, but his longest run (on Strava) in Sept and Oct was 13.1 miles. I'm sure he's fit for a good triathlon, but perhaps not the ideal pick for a pacer.

Well done everyone, great efforts, doesn't seem to be a single hard luck story for once, really good going.

Take a rest larkim, be fresh for your next crack at it. Don't be a doofus like me and burn yourself out.

Larks, well done again. If you can stomach any more of my well meaning "advice"! I would *caution* against running for a couple of days. I have picked up so many injuries that turned into niggles by coming back to running too soon after a marathon. I won't run til end of week at earliest. Gently cycle, bit of swim, gym, massage by all means but I wouldn't run.
Great pacing, probably perfect Bazo and larks. Needless to say, I was a neg split! But only just, maybe 10 seconds, which is less than usual for me. And that was with a very bimbled first couple of miles through the town. Second half was def trickier. Even where there weren't the wee sharp uphills, it felt generally uphill! Loved the bit 10-15 miles though, felt best there. Had to work at the end, like everyone else though!
AJLB, I won Fetch credits by betting on you to PB, so thanks!
Right, off to do a couple of sponsorships for folk that I chatted to on way round. One young lad whose daughter died earlier in the year. Terrible and really put our running pains into perspective.

Glad to oblige, G! I'd hoped my Edinburgh pb was "soft" as it was a first mara with a 4 week lay-off in the last 10 weeks. Bets on for Edinburgh - can I go under 2.45?

OK, I can't ignore advice on here (apart from running 9 miles in the two days before ther race, which I think we've now established was OK!). I will sit down, drink wine and not even think of running. Probably.

I normally run the few days after a marathon... Well "run" might be stretching it. Hobble for at least a mile, up to about 5k, depending on legs.
For me its an important part of recovery, but I am willing to run very slowly if necessary.
What I do though is take 3-4 weeks off racing. I find its trying to run fast that starts off the problems.

I've found recently that running the day after a race helps me recover quicker. That said, I'm not running marathons and you have to go on how your body feels. I didn't run after my race (Saturday) yesterday as the season is over, I'm having an easy week anyway and with that in mind, the risks Happy mentioned above outweigh the benefits.
If you're ok with swimming and cycling, that's a better way as avoids impact.
