Oscar the grouch
Welcome, Pete and blimey well done! They are a nice bunch. I say they as I loiter here for tips (as do others). My pb is a good deal slower for now. Incidentally, I spent a fair few happy Friday nights on the Wirral as a student watching Tranmere in the John Aldridge/Pat Nevin days :-) For the uninitiated Tranmere used to play at home on a Friday night to avoid clashing with Liverpool/Everton home games. They were an acceptable answer for a southerner to the question of 'who do you support'. The answer of, I go across and watch Tranny on a Friday night always got a conversation rather than a fight!

Welcome Pete and well done on a great time.

I was in that pace group as well and started to fall back around the same time. Read my blog if you want to read more on how the race was for me.

There is plenty advice here and lots of good runners so let us know more about training and racing.

I suspect just doing another marathon might be enough for you and maybe one that doesn't have the harder miles at the end like Chester.

It's Macclesfield Town for me (where my dad is from) which takes a bit of explaining and I haven't been for a few years. See Tranmere from time to time - both clubs now in the oblivion of non-league...

My wife's maternity leave finishes in January - when she's back at work it'll be a struggle to manage the 70 mile weeks again. Perhaps a second baby is the answer!

...and that blog has raised a question from me.

Is it better to 'race' a marathon based on km splits than mile splits?

Blimey, 73:15 to half way feeling "terrible" and then run a negative split!

Welcome Pete

Welcome Pete and as others have said, congrats on a great time and a big PB. I'd agree with Bazo, if you've made that kind of progression, I think another marathon will see you get the couple of mins required. Come up to Edinburgh (May 29th) - flat, actually net downhill, course, def easier than Chester!

I didn't blog, but my training note is virtually a blog, if anyone wants to read what a steady 3:11ish looks like! :-) G
