Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Cheers Larkim, I'll certainly not be un-watching the thread if I go sub-3. I remember we've had some good chats on the heart rate thread (another of my favourites). Anyway race well and see you on the other side :-)

Has anyone warned you that you will be especially emotional after mara #1, Larks? I wouldn't recommend seeing the family for 5 mins or so after the finish if you want to keep your sh*t together!! I still have the odd emotional reaction, but first was worst. Difficult for a Grouch :-)

I'd trepidatious about that Oscar - hopefully I'll maintain a stiff upper lip and be properly British about it all ;-)

Thanks for all the good wishes. This thread is truly the best place to get sage, challenging, supportive, friendly advice and I'm delighted I stumbled into here a few years ago. Even if the marathon finds me out in the last few miles, nothing I've done in the last 6 months will be going to waste. I started this plan with aspirations of being comfortably sub 3:30, and whilst I'm 100% confident I'd make that stick on Sunday come hell or high water, I'm under no illusions that the slow torture of 26.2m will be easy so your support is much appreciated!! I know I am capable of sub 3:15. But if it doesn't come with mara #1, Sunday will still go into the training and experience bank.

And of course, if I smash it.... :-) :-) :-)

lark - Your preparation, and dedication, has been very impressive. Stick to the pace plan, and be ready to use all your mental toughness in the last hour to keep going at the same pace despite everything starting to hurt. luck

Baz too, at the other end of the experience spectrum ;-). Go on son. This is the one.

G - you're going to be fine, but good luck anyway :-)

this is *the* thread on FE for those passionate about running. All others just start talking about cakes eventually. #neverleaving

Very gushing lark, it won't save you from beefing on the day though. Man, I love a good beef at the end of a marathon.

So, on to the best wishes:

Baz - your build up has been as good as ever, you know what to do. Just go out and do it. No need to save your virgin sub-3 until you are V50!

G - I think you'll find it pretty easy at ~3:15 pace on the day. Backing you to come home in a strong negative split and have a super day at the same time.

Lark - indeed, great build up. I'm loving your confidence, I think it's well placed. You'll cruise for ages then it'll suddenly get harder. From there it's mile at a time, lamppost at a time, 20 steps at a time. Whatever it takes for you to just not slow down, do it!

Ooh, I want to do a Facebook "Like", thumbs up heart etc. for all these great posts. Completely agree what a great, informative, supportive and fun thread it is.

Without getting too huggy about it, I was thinking of your lot on Wed night as I ran in the dark "Don't fall and damage yourself, the Sub 3:15 guys will never let you live it down!" But I mean that in a good way, it reminded me to be careful. And at the end of my mara best attempts, I've often thought of you lot and it's reminded me to dig deep and leave nothing out there. And for my VLM best I said in my blog, and I mean it, genuinely couldn't have done it without you lot.

I'm hoping to just enjoy Sunday and not too bothered about my own time. Though I will still race as hard as I can at the end and as ever, will give it my all. But my real "goals" are a certain first time marathoner getting a fantastically well-deserved sub 3:15 and at the other end of the spectrum a fantastically experienced marathoner getting an equally well-deserved sub 3:00. Go Fetchieeeeesss! :-) G

Rather than wait until after the race, I've blogged for posterity, and hopefully some bits of it might be of use to another debutant following P&D!
