The Wrexham organisers sent an email today saying that Welsh Athletics is submitting an application to the Welsh government to designate the race as elite, thus allowing it to go ahead even if other races aren't back on in the UK. Decision TBC.

Damo, if you are looking for a HM in June/July, the Swansea one is still in the calendar for 13th June (but who knows if they will be able to actually hold that). It's not a bad course, although it can be windy along the promenade.

Can I ask a humble question to the braintrust -- how important is rotating shoes or using multiple shoes on rotation in a marathon block. I've heard mixed things about 1. shoe longevity 2. lower limb adaptation benefits 3. improved performance

I'm a simple fella -- I have my Nike Pegs 37 for routine easy running and a pair of Nike Zoom Fly for longer, harder sessions. (Also recently bought a pair of Hoka one One Rocket Xs -- haven't worn them much...)

For what it's worth I run 6-7 days per week, don't really have any biomechanical issues, hotspots or any other wild desire to buy all of the shoes in creation. Currently doing 70kpw, but will be ramping up. Is there any need to have another set of shoes in my armoury?

Thanks all

Depeche- personally I have one pair for training and two pairs for racing. Saucony A8 for short stuff and Saucony Fastwich for half and mara.

I would have thought switching shoes a recipe for injury myself. Had no prob over the years sticking to that.

I run 7 days a week and always aim to never wear the same trainer 2 days in a row. I’ve currently got Nike vomero and Pegasus for easy runs and zoom fly and vaporfly for faster ones.

My theory is it let’s trainers recover and wearing different trainers can help avoid overuse issues because they work your legs differently. Probably a load of bull but it’s been good for me

Another 7 day a week runner here - and I too rotate daily - probably about 10 pairs in rotation at any one time. Up until last year scarcely an injury despite hitting close to 4000 miles a year in my late 40s, so maybe something in it. (I should add that such a shoe-habit depends on regular freebies as prizes!)

Race flats for sessions. Dailys , Im currently wearing Vapour Flys, I was wearing Bostons but just fancied a change.

In answer to your question, something with a low heel drop for speed work, something more softer for general runs.

The shoe recovery theory has been debunked, I can't find a link right now, but it's been shown that rotation doesn't impact longevity.
I have several shoes on the go for other reasons:
1. If I've been running in the rain, I don't have to put on

2. Different shoes for different sessions, for mileage I use Pegs/Kinvara, for sessions Nike streaks or knackered old vaporflies
3. Bit of variety for the legs

Yep, with you there Anthony. If you run a fair bit, its nice to mix it up.

I run 7 days and use the Hoka carbon X for speed stuff, Hoka Speedgoat for the trails (just for the grip), and have two pairs of Hoka Clifton 7s for longer and daily stuff. The only reason I got two pairs of Clifton 7s was so I could put on a dry pair if it was wet on the previous day.

Up until a few months ago, I had only one pair of daily wear shoes but lived to rue that decision. The upper came apart at the seam on a run, and I had no back-up pair - waited 5 days for a replacement pair to arrive in the post. So even from a practical point of view having shoes to rotate into is a good idea.
