I do training plans free of charge. With a view to charging in future. Lot of success so far

Depeche, your 5k, 10k are faster than me, half about the same, but my marathon is 2:42:45. Perhaps just need more mileage and endurance work as you obviously have the speed. I'm sure I remember something on fetch that showed the average number of miles runners did in the 12 weeks leading up to a marathon to achieve a specific time. |

Interesting Damo I'll have a look out for that. Yeah, I def have not put adequate mileage or quality long sessions. I'm in the process of trialling an online coach so will let you know how it goes. Gold Coast marathon this year (if it goes ahead) will be the litmus test. Have you anything your shooting for this year, virtually at least?

*Delurks* Damo, the fetch prediction is at: fetcheveryone.com/marathonprediction 1200 miles in the 16 weeks before for a 2:20 marathon, about 800 for a 2:40. |

Happy New Year all. Good running Bob. I managed two races last year, before lockdown. Hit some form after that, then work took over, in these crazy times was so manic couldnt get any consistency. |

depeche, was that marathon based on a solid plan or more of a make-it-up-as-you-go style? It certainly looks like you have the potential to aim at 2:45.

I had a rough plan I made myself (I've read JD and Ptizinger) and tried to stick to that but was travelling at the time, so quite regular missed my long run in the 16-week block, or had to do some modified version of it... I was as lean as a rake (I was hiking a lot and eating quite terribly) so that might have helped! Thanks for the support, I'm oddly optimistic, despite life and the world generally being tits-over-arse at the moment

Thanks B Rubble, what an outrageously good bit of number crunching. Worrying mileage though, will have to up it a fair bit

I can’t recommend getting a coach enough - P&D and/or any cut and paste training programme from a book or online will only get you so far in my opinion. My own running came on in leaps and bounds when I started running with a coach and training group @james74 will back me up in that I’m sure! It’s little things like having someone to tweak your running form or the extra couple of seconds you shave off each rep knowing that there’s someone stood at the finish line with a stop watch that will ultimately make you a more efficient, faster runner. Obviously it’s not an option in the midst of the madness right now but definitely something to consider once life hopefully starts returning to normal. Online coaching is better than nothing as your plan will, hopefully, at least be tailored to your goals and lifestyle specifically. |

Echoing what Stokesy has said, I've done my own plans but work with my coach / mentor who keeps me on track, accountable and realistic about my racing and training plans, plus is there for moral support and a chat whenever I need it. This year I've also joined a new running club, Aldershot, Farnham and District, to train in a group as I've always trained alone, so far not really had races to prove the improvement I've had by training with a group but I know from the sessions I do I'm training harder and better than I ever did on my own. |
