Didn't need the gaffer tape. But I might need it today - legs are in bits. With a few wrong turns 31 miles 6500ft. But it was the sheer pounding of the feet and legs from the miles of rough terrain that left me walking up the last couple of hills. Finished 6th overall in 5h10. It was warm and like Hillck warned I needed a lot more water than usual. |

Bit windy on the tops. But really conditions were good - a lot less boggy than it could have been.

Well done Bob, great performance. I thought you were a cert for a top 10 finish and might even get to top 5, so you were right up there. The other tip I forgot to offer for long stuff with multiple descents is to take the first couple of descents really gently, otherwise your quads pay for it later on.....sounds like you found that one out for yourself!! My quads usually take a few days to recover from something like that, but overall recovery usually quicker than for a road marathon. I'd be interested to see how you find it.

Cheers guys. I knew from fell races to take it easy on the descents. No problem walking down stairs today. Hamstrings a bit tight at very bottom behind knees almost. But the soles of my feet rather tender. You'd be good at that James - all pacing and endurance really. Ermm and navigation. My watch lasted about as long as my legs but first 25 miles here strava.com - tiring to even look at the profile. |

Got some internet access in Tignes some great running out here including 18th in the Courchvel X-Trail 33k. I'd be good if I want so rubbish at running down hill. But loved it. Well done Bob |
