Greg…just noticed the post about your nomination. I think that speaks volumes about how you do your work. Excellent.

I don't like, "You should retire TO something." I'm retiring from a lifetime of being jerked around by the "you should" mentality and I don't want it back.

This ^ I have done enough that I ‘should’ , it’s time to do what I’d like to do as well as sometimes doing nothing - because I can

Still have family to keep me busy and a neighbour I keep an eye on, just enough that I can feel useful when required.

I could end up having to step in with my parents at any time, which is a good deterrent to taking on anything committing. I also want to have a proper go at masters athletics when I hit 60 if my body is still co-operating.

The parent thing worries me!

You’ll be awesome at masters

Realistically, I'll be trailing, Pix. Looking at the numbers, I'm some way adrift of the sharp end. But I'm interested in experiencing that sort of targeted competition.

I met up with some of the school staff last night for a collective leaving do (there are 3 key members of staff leaving next week) and I was asked a number of times to go back. I had no hesitation in saying, "Nah!"
After a lifetime of following timetables, I really appreciated the freedom I have now, to do the things I want, when I want to do them. Being able to meet up with friends for a walk or a coffee during the day - any day - means I'm seeing people who I like spending time with much more often than I used to be able to.

Exactly, GM. Being able to take my mum out for her 80th birthday last year on the actual day! That couldn't have happened if I had still been teaching. Going away on holidays when I want. Not having to go into school the day after I've run a race. And many other lovely things.

Thanks, Mandymoo :)

Not sure, Pix. 5k/10k, maybe half marathon if I can tolerate the training mileage that would convert my 5k pace to half marathon pace.
