@Velociraptor I had spied an old dinosaur while I was lurking 😉 Regarding state pension I'd be very surprised if it was ever means tested. Unlike other benefits this is based on lifetime contributions, specifically destined for your pension. So means testing it would be difficult/impractical/illegal? I'm sure there are many other new and clever ways though to hit well well off pensioners 🤔 |

Like many others, I’m sure, I really hope you’re right @OO61 I’m rather relying on the state pension for my latter years.

I don't think state pension in its current format would ever be means tested. More likely that death might be considered as a chargeable event and capital gains tax would be payable. There's talk that maybe pension tax relief will be reduced for higher tax payers, terrible idea IMHO |

Oh my word my colleague has just told me she is leaving next year possibly April she may stay until July. This is pretty much what my A plan would be, although I think realistically I will be soonest July, maybe April 2026. She is going to inform the business towards the end of the year. They may find themselves in a bit of a pickle.... it wont change my plans I also shared that we are looking at options for an early retirement in a couple of years so they need to be thinking about future proofing this team. |

Geordiegirl - whoops. But however conscientious you are that's the company's problem not yours. It's good your colleague shared her plans with you. |

It's polite to give more than the bare minimum notice (IMO and depending on situation). It's never necessary to work a day longer than you choose to. It's their problem to cope with staff absences/departures. You could have got ill or died or just got a (much) better job offer that they wouldn't be able to match etc.

My back to back walked out in the September and she was my main reason for retiring but that didn’t change my mind . Work’s problem not yours
