I've seen many people drift into nothingness, a sort of mind numbing routine that is just existing rather than living when retiring - including some I thought were dynamic and wouldn't end up like that in their working lives.

Thats exactly what happened to me and therefore the day I walked out of the door I never looked back. Two years later haven't spoken to old boss once - after 26 years of working there. Sad but as you say - true feelings shown
EvilPixie Aug 2023 9:40am, 29 Aug 2023 46,154 posts	0 EvilPixie TRO I think this is why his mum was against him retiring as I suspect his days will be sport, bit of housework, bit of gardening repeat whereas I see all sorts of fitness stuff and reading and some gardening (more veg growing?) so not much more excitement but more active!

EvilPixie Aug 2023 9:47am, 29 Aug 2023 46,155 posts	0 EvilPixie sport is his passion TRO he loves the horse racing and that was his routine when he took those 4 months off before I've already told him he will need to do some exercise even if it's a walk as house work and a bit of gardening every now and then won't be enough Maybe he could take up golf again - he used to play and we have been a few times together. Not sure if he would go alone mind but it's a thought
