The Moonstone was my school prize in the second form (Y8 for you youngsters.) It is indeed held to be the start of the detective fiction genre but it's so long since I read it I'm not sure I can remember a great deal about it. Other than, I enjoyed it and it's still on my bookshelves.

But Marian Halcombe in the Woman in White is a great character, not exactly the heroine ..except she IS!

Which one are the Shifting Sands in? Te Moonstone I think.

I loved the different narrators in The Moonstone. His other books have been a bit too florid for me.

This New Yorker review sums up All That Man Is far better than I ever could. It almost makes me want to read it again.

Well, I’ve just started Eleanor Oliphant. I think some people really didn’t like it, it seems ok to me after 2 chapters
