Do you think one might have to do a 2 week isolation period if you want to go abroad and hence put people off, or people just do longer holidays. Agree with Daisy about travel broadens the mind. Maybe have to do more long cycle holidays :)

So, just got an email from the uni where I work (zero hours contract), they are predicting 80% drop in overseas students, 20% drop in uk students (they do not say why), so overall a drop in income of some 25%, and that the first term will probably be online only......so there is something, much more online stuff, no need for students to leave home....ever. Shame.

WS That is a really sad. Part of the learning is mixing with very different people with different ideas. Many of the overseas students at RHUL have returned and will not come back for the 3rd term. All have gone to online. Socialising habits are changing. The House Party app is the norm for the yuff

One of my nearly 18 year olds is gutted by the idea of not having the social opportunity at the start of uni. The other is quite indifferent and would probably opt for online as a preference

yes, it's odd. I have had a chat with a few of them, they're being really positive, but the ones that have enjoyed coming to manchester and mixing with all sorts of people feel a bit robbed. Of course, some people find that side of uni difficult and a distraction, but it is a fundamental part of university life. Maybe later it will gradually return to attendance, but I have a feeling uni's like the idea, it's cheaper. I also think, as usual, the subjects that will struggle are the sciences.

It's also a warming that I won't get re-engaged, but there you go.
