I put all my gear in a 15L rucksack and put that into the kitbag, it makes it easier to carrier afterwards and adds a bit of protection for your stuff.

In my bag I have a change of shoes, socks, pants, trackies, LS top, t-shirt, hoodie, jacket, hat and gloves, plus a basic hygiene kit of wet wipes, hand towel, body spray and moisturiser. I need to get a snack too now that there is no longer a goodie bag to eat the contents of. If there are two things that are guaranteed at the finish it is that I will be starving hungry and freezing cold!

My pre-race stuff includes a snack, drink, a couple of old tops, a plastic poncho and a foil blanket.

I found last year they were calling for bags to go to the bag drop quite early so you could be waiting a little while before you start. I would definitely have a throwaway layer.

I have loads of throwaway clothing to wait in as I really feel the cold. Old cardi, gloves, ear band, pair of socks to cut the end off and use as arm warmers for as long as I need, plastic poncho. In bag for after are trackie bottoms, long sleeved t-shirt, fleece cardi and food. I’m running for Macmillan and they provide wet wipes, drinks and snacks at the post race reception.

Thanks all, that’s really helpful. I’ve found a jumper that was going for rags anyway to wear - will look ridiculous but who cares..

Don’t worry. Most of us will look ridiculous and I’d far rather that than be cold and miserable!

I recommend an old throw or sleeping bag you don’t mind disposing. It will be cold, very open/exposed and nothing is more draining than being cold before the off.

Blackheath (for Blue, Green and Yellow starts) is very exposed and any wind really impacts the temp while standing around. Greenwich Park (Red) is slightly more sheltered because there are more trees.

One thing to be aware of is dew on the grass - you can end up with quite damp shoes. A couple of plastic bags will make a big difference.

There will be opportunities to discard jumpers etc after you leave the start pen but before you get to the actual start line. Please try dump the clothes at the designated points as it makes the collection a lot easier for the volunteers.
