It says here that we'll be volunteering in the BLUE start area on baggage trucks 21,22,23,27 & 28* - hope to see some of you there!

*I won't be sure which truck I'm crewing until the day.

KinkyS, is that still true do you reckon? Not talking about the tightening of the times, but loads of people I know run multiple marathons a year, and qualify in more than a couple a year. I think itโ€™s easier to do now with the super shoes and improved recovery, but personally I think the times when people can target only one or two a year are long gone.

Maybe it depends on what company you keep - thinking about all my clubmates and running friends both in real life and online, the vast majority will only run one or two marathons a year, and of those who run more than that, most of those events are 'training races' that wouldn't qualify as GFA. I used to be one of those who could rock up and run as many GFA times as I wanted in a year without putting much effort in (I even used to run multiple championship times a year :-o) but these days getting even one GFA per year takes a lot out of me, I certainly couldn't do it repeatedly any more. I know I'm still extremely lucky to have the genetics and lifestyle that allow me to train for marathons at GFA standard, and I wish that I'd fully appreciated what I used to have before I lost it. My issue is health-related but for a lot of my friends it's also the time commitment required that prevents them from doing loads of marathons.

I'm on 3 marathons in 3 marathons "seasons" and I've definitely lost the mental mojo to train myself as hard as I would need to to bag a GFA. And I say that as someone who is probably on that borderline of being London "GFA" if I commit, but naturally just outside it if I just run for "fun".

Some club runners can just do it anyway. Which is great for them, and I don't begrudge a GFA place to anyone. I think the 3000m and 3000f places is spot on too. The balance at London between club, champs, ballot and charity seems pretty spot on to me too.

As expected, the GFA cut-off times have been tightened up, though not by as much as I'd thought they might be. Five minutes off for me. tcslondonmarathon.com

Five minutes off for me too. Doesn't really confirm anything though. It just means I can definitely apply and my achieved time has a 5 mins buffer, not 10 mins.

Lots of older folk I know & younger for that matter just get injured if they train too hard.

Six club mates have been training for Manchester, all way faster runners than me, only three now are going to make the start line.

Ugh. I really don't get on with giving out the finisher t-shirts before the event. A minor grumble though in the grand scheme of things!

Registrant email by 12th April too, which contradicts the 5th April on the website. Pretty par for the course though for them to set a deadline and then change it.
