:) :)
and yes - the experiences here sound very reminiscent of our experience of them as teenagers :)

Yes mine are all in their 20’s now, but the expectations were laid down long ago - probably before they were teens

I guess it also depends how able you are financially, to be honest, Erin's contributions are welcome. If I could afford to put them away for her, I would but sometimes money doesn't stretch to the whole month, so it's a very welcome extra few quid in the pot.

I have a decent wage, but it's only me, her father's contributions stopped as soon as he was legally entitled to. They do have the odd financial transaction between but it's nothing to do with me.

Amazingly, I've just asked Marigold to hang the washing out and she's doing it without any kind of resistance

My youngest, in 20's pays £100 a month towards food and bills as she lives at home. It doesn't cover everything but she is saving for a house, we feel she needs to contribute something but to be fair as I work in a pharmacy I tend to buy her toiletries and when we go for coffee I buy. She is getting a good deal while being able to save but learning a good life lesson at the same time. If she abused the situation spending loads without saving I wouldn't hesitate to charge her more but then I am married to a Yorkshire man.

Similar to Tizer, we take keep off eldest son when he's working but we keep it.

Recently we had our kitchen remodelled and use his keep for the new appliances.

He often reminds us that it's his oven/fridge/dishwasher and we often ask if he'd like to learn how to use it. Always declines, can't think why :-)

I look forward to the day QP is earning enough to contribute. I’ve just looked at the cost of college accommodation. It’s going to cost more than my mortgage payments. Cries.

Same lack of assistance and general stroppiness here. DD2 flips between really quite helpful and total sloth. She's rather (aka much) better at doing jobs that I ask her to do than when OH asks. DS2 is 15 and lazy as f*** and spoilt rotten by OH, so does the square root of nothing. I've basically washed my hands of trying to get him to do anything as he just moans to OH if I do, but the result is that I don't do anything for him either, though he does get praise on the rare occasion he does actually lift a finger. He'll learn eventually.

Years ago, my brother got some National Saving Certificates for daughter, as a gift from Mum (she was incapacitated with a stroke and he had power of attorney). Now they've matured and can't be renewed so we're transferring them to a junior ISA instead and we're thinking of adding to that regularly, partly with a view to having a useful bit of capital when she might be thinking of going to university in a few years' time.
