Both good ones if you're going for a time, I believe, having never done either.

Fancying something abroad, just because I've never raced anywhere more exotic than Belfast.

Aye, Edinburgh is my wife’s PB.

I’d recommend Munich.

Watching an acquaintance on the Frankfurt tracker, sub 4 isn’t as easy as you think & is an achievement for many runners.

Wouldn't a sub-4 hour marathon be a major achievement for the large majority of runners? Which you could possibly say of any marathon time.

Agreed, I think the average marathon time is something like 4:30 (a bit faster for men, a bit slower for women), sub 4 is definitively an "above average" time irrespective of age and sex.

And that's before you get to considering that only a small percentage of the running population complete a marathon in the first place.

All marathons are hard, but a lot of folk use sub 4 as a yardstick imho.

I can absolutely vouch for sub-4 not being easy. I need to be fully fit, well trained AND lucky on the day to get close.

The guy I was just watching was 1:49 at half way and finished 4:05. There’s no doubt in my mind he’d have trained properly. He’s younger than & faster than me over shorter distances too.

It’s not all bad news though, my other watched dots were 2.27 & 3:18.

A sub-4 can't actually be that hard, as I've looked up the Tanda predictor on Fetch. This calculates a time based on one's eight-week training volume and pace. I'd currently sneak just under 4:30. On 10.9 km a week at 7:06/km. So there can't be that much work I need to go sub-4.
