Well done HOD!

I did 46:38 on an undulating course a couple of weeks ago. Next big thing up is Snowdonia marathon so I doubt I'll have another shot at it in 2016. This said, there is another 10k next weekend, same course as 3 weeks ago so not much hope of getting sub-45 but I'd take your time any day on that course, HOD ;)

Posting because I've decided I'm committing to going sub 45 this year. 48.07 at Gainsborough this morning, which is my starting point. I've got the DT20 in a couple of weeks (20k of offroad and a LOT of climb) which will be an experience, rather than a race - followed by a week away which will probably involve a bit of walking, and the odd jog, but then I've got 8 weeks before Woodhall Spa 10k.

My plan is based on running 4 or 5 times a week. I tend to do long runs on a Saturday, and the majority of these will be offroad. Historically I've never really done speedwork, so I'm planning on introducing one interval/tempo/hill session a week. I'd like to lose half a stone or so as well, so will make more sensible choices.

Is anyone else looking at a similar target, or have you all achieved it?

I didn't quite achieve it a couple of years back, Zeb. Just a couple of seconds short and I've not been near it more recently but I would like to try and run a fast 10k in the summer.

update: 45:30 just before Snowdonia on an undulating course in October, then 48:56 on a windy day in January on another undulating course and a few weeks later 47:35 around the Great Orme, i.e. very hilly so not bad but still a long way to go.

7:30 mi/mile seems very doable, 7:15 is currently just too fast. I'll focus on it when London is done and dusted.

becca7, I see, another member of the 'almost there club' *waves*. I missed out on it a couple of years back by a few seconds, 45:09, haven't quite managed to get close again, 45:30 was the best I could do.

Sounds good, tipsku if you can manage those times on undulating/hilly courses. I'm a long way off that sort of pace at the moment.

Well I ran Woodhall today, and achieved a slightly disappointing 47.51. However, my intentions of doing some speed work came to nothing, and as to the losing weight - let's not go there. There's definitely more to come - a cooler day would have seen me a minute quicker I think (it's a very open countryside course, but I need to include he speedwork. So a summer of long slow off-road runs ready for the next two Dales Trail runs, then look at putting some speedier sessions together in the autumn.
