I know what you mean, Rich. I thought about this one mainly as my brother and niece are running it. Also, I will have done a marathon in mid-October and I am not planning to run a November marathon in 2016. I think about 3k took part in Brighton in this year's race.

I think I'm back in the game. I finished a half in 1:38 on Sunday, clocking 46 min for the 10k in the process so it's not looking too bad for a sub 45 10k. I just need to find a flat 10k in the next 4-6 weeks.

Good stuff :-) I'm currently going the other way. Did a 10k PB in training (46:20), and hoping to improve on a 1:45:57 half marathon time. Then I'm coming back to get the sub-45 :-)

Excellent training run! well done!

I remember clocking 1:45:47 in a half after getting 44.25 in a 5.9 mile race (weird distance, I know) which is equivalent to about 46:45 for 10k. So I would say that getting a HM PB off that training 10k looks doable. Good luck!

I never manage to push myself hard enough to get a PB in training so races often come with nice surprises because I do not expect to run that fast. I was aiming for 1:42-43ish after a 46:47 10k a while ago on a hillly course. Seeing 1:38 at the finish was a huge surprise. :D

I'm really not sure how it's going to work. I've had my HM PB for about 8 years now - but I've rarely had a block of training like I've had over the last six months - so everything feels pretty good.

For the HM, I've been doing a weekly(ish) tempo run, which started off as 3 miles, several months ago, and has built up to 6 miles, faster than I was doing the original 3. I know I've probably done them faster than is necessary, but I've been doing 3 sessions a week, so there's lots of recovery time too. Long runs have been up to 12 miles, at about 9:20/mile.

This thread has been quiet for a while. I just thought I check back on it and I'm happy to see that you managed to get that HM PB, and also PBs for 10k and 10 miles, well done!

I might have a go at this over the summer, if I can find a suitable opportunity, once Comrades is out of the way. I've not been running short distances but got 46:28 at Wakefield 10km, which is an undulating course. After a stress fracture in my foot in October I seem to have got some pace back.

Hello

I think I'm going to have a stab at this in May. Current PB is 44:59 but it's not sub 45 enough to feel properly sub 45 :)
I have a 10k booked for the day after my 50th birthday. Looking for that WAVA too :)
