That's a Robin Williams line for Good Morning Vietnam but I find it quite useful in the UK in certain seasons.;-)

Yeah yeah, whatever.:-p 150 mile months on top of the bike miles make me jealous. My body doesn't seem to be able to cope with that sort of volume. I'm working my way back to whatever I can get to and hoping it's about 100-120/month.

I'm doing both again at the mo, mate. Seems that when I get up to about 140/month I break down somehow. Not usually injury-wise but health-wise. I'm taking it a bit more slowly this time round and lets see what happens.

Working on that as well, mate. More fruit and veg, more protein. It's a bit of a downer because I've stuffed up my last 2 years with (2 totally different and unrelated) spring illnesses.

Rich, welcome to the Club of 'the heat of the British summer thwarted my PB attempt' club. I also went for sub 45 today in Caerphilly (current PB 45:09 end of March) and made it home in 46:54. The first 2km went to plan (both pace and HR wise) and the wheels slowly came off, HR went through the roof, I was very thirsty and the splits got slower and slower. km 6 and 7 were horrible, slight gradient uphill on a by-pass road in the sun with no shade (5:08 and 5:05) but then I salvaged a bit on the final 3k, 4:32, 4:37 and 4:38 despite a hill on the final km. so all in all I'm confident I can do it if it is not that hot and on a flatter course. Next attempt in three weeks.

I'm glad that I still finished relatively well, some people were up to 5 min off their normal times and quite a few runners collapsed and A&E/st. John's had a very busy day. One of my team mates also collapsed after crossing the finish line.

Well done on some good times in less than ideal circumstances. I missed a good 10km league race as I was visiting my folks as my dad was getting a postgrad OU degree. I should have planned my visit a bit more carefully as there was a 10km race in the town but I would not have made my return flight even if I got under 45 mins, which would be unlikely at present.
