My plan was to run 10M at 8M/M pace for a steady state session - setting off at 13:15 in the afternoon heat was "going to be ok" - well 5/6 miles was fine, and then wheels came off miles 7 and 8 were hell and I abandoned after 8 Miles which I felt really guilty about - but no point in killing myself in a Saturday afternoon run!! just not used to the heat... Sat under the hosepipe for about 15 minutes when I got home.... That was lush!!

Pinchy - that is not a steady state run for you if it put you in that sort of distress

Yes - normally it would be fine Gobi at that pace - but the heat killed me..... I would normally av HR 150 for that pace - I was up around 165 by mile 8

Let me say it again and slowly

It is WAY WAY TOO FAST

With a 45 min 10km PB 8mm is not a steady run

What is your HR at 8mm ?

(I train slower than 8mm, just saying......)

for a 5M run at 8m/m my HR would average 149/150

Here is the log for a run slightly quicker than 8M/M and Av HR 151 last week

Pinchy - initially my first comment stands TOO FAST second comment - it is faster than I train so 45 or 43 it makes no difference. I coach sub 3 37 min 10km runners and they run plus 8mm most of the time. Surely at some point you will see what I am trying to say.

my HR for a steady 8mm run is 120 at 150HR I would be running low 6mms and this is boardering on anerobic threshold and nowhere near steady

10 miles steady run seems a lot too... when fit I might do 6 miles as part of a bigger run, but cant remember ever do that much. I only use steady as a bridge pace in sessions or warm up for races since its too close to junk pace (the pace at which you are tiring but not getting lots of adaptation like you would with a tempo run), better to run slower imo or do shorter more intense stuff.
