2018

Decided not to adjust my goal, despite it being clear just stood in the pen waiting for the start that it was going to be very warm. Went off even a bit too fast for sub 3. Tried to run within myself but it felt so easy bowling along.

However by mile 10 I could feel my core temperature going up and my heart rate was too high. Tried to run within myself but was still going too quick. Went through half way in 1:29 but seriously thought about giving up at that point. Felt so fatigued.

Second half was a nightmare of run/walking. Partly my motivation had gone (even getting a 3:15 GFA wasn't enough to get me going) and partly I thought there was no point beating myself up for a 3:10 sort of time. Finished 3:19.
Feel fine today with very little soreness - apart from sore feet ( I stupidly wore some flattish shoes that I wear for 10k to HM but had never run more than that in).
Congratulations to everyone that ran, and to those that achieved their goals. Commiserations to everyone else. There will be other times.

Interesting stat there Nelly, I must admit I was surprised just how many championship start runners I was passing in the second half.

I'm not getting carried away Lee, I'm not convinced a sub 2.45 is there but hopefully there is still room for improvement if I can find the enthusiasm.

If championship runners didn't make the time this year, they will still likely be fast enough for a GFA entry, yes? Could make those GFA places hard to come by next year.

Good point Oranj, hopefully most of them gave up.

It was very enjoyable running 5 miles today. Revelling in the cool, breezy conditions!

I wouldn’t say you can translate position directly to a sub-2:45 Chris as a lot of the people you beat will have run poorly to the conditions. But it certainly points to a clearly faster run and I don’t think you have any reason to shy away from 2:50 next time.

I agree jda, I’m tempted to enter Edinburgh so I don’t have to go through a whole training plan again

Chris, I have done the London/Edinburgh double 4 times I think. Twice I performed better and PBd but twice I was a couple of mins slower. Its do-able
