Over the last few marathon cycles my "MP" test runs have usually come out at around the MP that I actually achieved the previous year. Which would be discouraging if taken as a direct indication of likely performance but I find encouraging in that I know I'm improving :-)

10 miles or more solo at marathon pace on "training legs" is a really tough workout IMO.

My run on sunday is 18 with 6 at mp, 1 tempo and 6 more at MP. I plan to use this as a guide. If I am around 6:50mm for 161 HR then that is indicative of being there or thereabouts for sub 3. If I miss those numbers I need to reconsider.

the 1 tempo mile though might muddy the waters, pushing the HR up for more than just the mile of tempo.

I suppose the test is whether the pulse and effort level trends down (while hitting the target pace!) after the hard mile.

2x 15 mins today for me and covered 7.9km which I calculate to be about 38 mins/10k pace. Pulse way down, legs a bit tired so pretty pleased with that speed (new shoes again).

Last 20 miler done today! 👍🏻😎

Will probably hit 60 miles this week then begins the taper!

Was thinking of doing a parkrun full pelt this weekend to see how my speed is? Maybe a 2 mile easy run there, fast (hopefully) 5k and then another 5 easy miles?

Think I will stick to 2:55 target, even though the train looks empty and people are jumping on the more rapid ones! 😉

Can’t believe how much faster everyone has got since training began! 😳

How we all feeling with the big one just round the corner now!?

Doesn’t taper start next week for us running London?

Think my next 3 weeks mileage are 60,46 and 38 then it’s race week?

Ok I admit it......I like it when taper starts.....🙂
