Would you be doing the intermediate plan? My first thought was that in the interim you don't need to get fitter, just faster, so once you felt recovered sessions would be more about picking up speed, with maybe only one long run between races.

I'd planned on the intermediate ones, yeah. Looks like it had some speed work in it. I DEFINITELY need to work on speed. I've gotten so sloooooooooow.

Currently training for Gt Bentley half in Feb and Colchester half in Mar (deferred from last year due to injury). Also considering doing Benfleet 15 in Jan. Not looking forward to all those winter runs but training going well so far

Good luck SVrunner . I've started dodging my winter runs already. I did crack on from this time last year (and gained the benefits a few months further on) but I fear we may not get the same reasonably clement conditions this winter.

What happened at St Neots, Mave? Or, I'm surmising, didn't happen? I have a feeling that your marathon may not have gone to plan.
(I got well back under the 2 at Glasgow in November. Fastest in five years. I reckon that if I'd had another, in favourable conditions, about 3-4 weeks later I might have even bettered it. But I'm off the boil now and a bit low on motivation.)

Not much activity on this thread recently! Only 5 weeks to go to the Gt Bentley half. Did 2.08 last year, target this year is 1.58 Training has been going very well but currently laid up with annual heavy winter cold. Fingers crossed I can shake it off pretty quickly and get back to racking the miles up again. Anyone else got any halfs coming up?

Hi SVrunner. Well, at least you have the cold now and not at race time ;-). Might as well have few drinks to chase it away.
My forecasting was pretty accurate - I more or less ground to a halt after the last post. Awful weather. Late and surprising resurgence at the end of December. Two slow parkruns and a surprise PB so far this year. Need to up the run length for HMs though - none entered so far.

Yes Dvorak, having a few cheeky Tullamore Dew's, purely for medicinal purposes of course. Get yourself entered into a spring half, will focus the training. Had a cold last year but a few weeks later so didn't get over it in time so it impacted on my time hence 2.08 Did a 10.6 mile training run last week on my own in 1.37 which is around a 2hr half pace. Did you manage to do 2 parkruns on NYD? Was hoping to do that too, oh well always next year.
