Suicidal pace to start with. Great run from Bell.

Bell is in the same training group as Keely. Bell ran so well. It was a very tough race.

Good to see Jess Hull get a medal too.

Shades-I missed your comment on marathons.I'm still considering Langdale, just need to figure out work but it would be ideal. It is so hard to find anything similar.
I have mapped all the hills near me so I'm going to scout some out this week while I'm off.

Ian - yes, not easy to find road marathons/ultras to suit. The 'fashion' now is for flat marathons. Cornish would be good but a long way for you to travel and you have your ultra in November and an ultra distance race close to home is a much better choice for you.

I still think you should ditch your weekend in London and run Conne Ultra. 😉

Perhaps you can find a, say 5 mile hilly lap, that you could use for your long runs. In the same way you use the park.

RHR top end of normal today and I'm feeling better. Am planning to go for a short walk this morning before settling down to watch the women's marathon

Ian, as you know, I’ve never ran that long. I was just wondering if you have an idea what distance you’ll go up to in training.

Shades, good news you’re starting to feel a bit better.

I’ve loved the Olympics. What with a great TdF and then into Olympics it’s been a good few weeks. What I like about it is I can get engrossed in events I know not a lot about - it was BMX and skateboarding mainly for me this year, and the climbing wall. Not sure why but I couldn’t get into the rowing events this year, although I usually can. OH and I have said we’re going to get archery as there’s a club nearby that does taster sessions - looks easy, right? 😆 I’ll be tuning into Paralympics as well although they don’t start until 28 August.

Rest day from running but planning a Zwift session after the marathon. Went for a walk and a lunch yesterday with Tigg and it was so sticky out there I needed another shower when I got back!

I've only watched the athletics, the road cycling and the equestrian events and that's been enough for me. I shan't be watching the Paralympics, I've had enough sport for now.

The Vuelta starts next weekend.

I just looked at the forecast to see what to wear for my short walk, 17 degrees, feels like 20, 98% humidity 🥵

I went for a walk this morning (hip a bit achy but not surprised after parkrun) - wore shorts and a sleeveless top.
That marathon is looking brutal. Rose seems to be having a tough time.

Shades-If OH decides she doesn't want to do London then I will, but I'd say it's unlikely.
Big G-I think 35 is the most I am planning,or there is a Keswick to Barrow 40 miler a few do who are prepping for Comrades so I also have that pencilled in as an option.
Seen the Brits aren't doing too well in the marathon,Calli may have pulled out,Rose is pretty.much last, with Clara not too far ahead.
5 of them still strong with 5km left, surprised to see Jeochechir dropped off the pace.

That was incredible from Hassan, one of the best marathon finishes I've seen.Thought they were going to go over on that bend where they clashed.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
