Shades - Another bad year for my wallet then. I’ve got my eye on the Nike Vomeros.

Rcouture - I have no more room for new running shoes, so I'd better start ramping up the miles to use up the stock I have.

Ran in my MagMax today, love those shoes.

WP - 300 miles is a significant increase.

How are you today?

5+ miles today. After trashing my quads in the gym yesterday I was expecting a tough run but it was OK, the cushioning in those MagMax shoes certainly helped. Cold wind again but today I ran out in the headwind and tailwind on return run, much better than yesterday when I did the opposite.

Gym later, upper body today and Stairmaster (perhaps).

I am a lot better today usually I run fast laps on a Tuesday but that is binned till new year.

So a nice easy 4+ miles this morning. Very cold and slow.
PT later and then stepper to finish the day.

I have Santa 5k Saturday along Aberafan seafront which is always windy ,cold and wet😁
So aiming at Wednesday as a long run then ease back.

WP - good you're feeling better. Is it this coming weekend your 5k race?

12 miles today with a couple of hills thrown in. Quite windy again but I had an enjoyable run, including once around my favourite hilly loop, which has great views over the bay.

WP - hope the weather is kind to you for your race. It's definitely pot luck at this time of year when it comes to the weather.

Big G - you're really embracing those hilly runs now. I don't remember you being so keen on hills before. 😉

Upper body session done in gym which went well but it's after upper body that it's the Stairmaster or the treadmill. I had decided today would be the treadmill as easier on the legs but all the treadmills were busy and both Stairmaster machines were free. So 671 steps done, legs were a bit tired walking home. 😫

Shades, I won’t be doing much elevation whilst in NL! I remember at OH’s parents’ old house, I did something like a 7 mile run with around 20ft of elevation….

But, I’m enjoying it. I do feel I’m getting a bit stronger, although still mainly walking the steeper climbs.

Knee playing up a bit today after the run. I had some issue 2 or 3 weeks ago, and a day or two off, and it vanished again. Same knee this time and was basically fine on the run, but occasionally a bit sore now if I put weight on it in a certain way. Something else to keep an eye on!

Big G - that is flat. You'll appreciate the hills when you get home. 🤣

My knee(s) are a mystery to me. Yesterday I took some post up the 15 steps to the flat upstairs. My knee was so sore going up every step, really painful, less sore on the way down. Today I ran 5 miles, walked 2 miles and 671 steps on that Stairmaster and not even the faintest twinge. Weird.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
