No running since Thursday for me again. A combination of things, though another bout of a chesty bug being the main culprit. Unclear if it’s just a relapse from the one I had the week before last which I badly managed or a new one entirely. Think part of the reason I train and race so much better in the autumn is that I’m not off sick for big chunks of the summer! Aside from that, the in-laws have gone home after just over a year of living with the girls and I so taking some readjusting to new routines with the nanny. Should be manageable but just taking some reorganising as she doesn’t stay overnight. Coupled with my youngest’s birthday weekend just gone and it’s been manic so giving myself some grace and wfh with loads of paracetamol and cuppas today. Will see about heading out tomorrow morning.

Stressful times there RCouture and sounds like quite a lot of readjustment for you and the girls, and you’re right to give yourself some time to get things sorted. I hope the girls are doing okay coming up to the festive period this year.

Big G - another good run. Lovely to see a seal.

My annual mileage will be one of my lowest for about 17 years.

WP. - it's not uncommon to have a low RHR, say mid afternoon after a snooze or just sitting down for a while. If you have some symptoms, such as you do today, then you know not to run.

Rcouture - sorry to hear you've had another dose or relapse of that chesty bug. Hope you shift it soon and can get back to your running. I expect you'll all settle into the new domestic arrangements soon and life will run smoothly again.

Legs/glutes session at the gym. I did increase the weights on the last set of one of my quads exercises, not sure if that was a good idea as I'm feeling it now.

Big G - The girls are doing as well as could be hoped for. The eldest is very resilient after going through an obviously hard few months after Helen passed and the youngest just too young so much of the last year seems like it didn’t happen, though of course the processing can take time to develop so we are keeping a close eye out. We are in Atlanta visiting my sister (she moved from Chicago) for a couple of weeks next Saturday which should be fun for all and I may finally get some decent stretch of running.

I’m at 2058 miles vs 2214 last year. Happy with that though likely my first year where mileage doesn’t increase. Avg pace 15secs a mile higher which is a relevant improvement since I run to hr.

Rcouture - hope you all enjoy your visit to Atlanta. I guess that'll be another marathon on your 'to do list'.

As usual you'll lap us all with your annual mileage. 15 seconds per mile is a big improvement especially that's on your whole year's mileage.

Typo: I meant I was 15secs faster this year

Shades - I believe Atlanta marathon is rather hilly (1.4k ft elevation I think) and often hot so I might give it a while!

Rcouture - I interpreted that as 15 seconds faster anyway 🙃

1400 feet isn't that hilly! Maybe one day when you just happen to be visiting. I think Atlanta is known for being humid though.

Rcouture: I hope The girls and you adjust to the new arrangements but it must be so hard on them and you.

Enjoy Atlanta:)

Nice mileage for the year :)

I think I will make 1500 which is the highest for me since 2019.

WP - that's brilliant that your mileage will be highest for 5 years.

Rcouture - I don't know if you get RW Kit Bag emails but I thought of you when I read it. Some weird and wonderful new shoes coming our way...

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
