Big G - I've plotted routes on Fetch and they've also had exaggerated elevation. I suppose they all get their data from the same/similar source. So will be interesting to see what elevation you measure.

WP - I think we're all fans of the Higher State tops, they wash so well and dry so quickly. I forgot to order some of their elastic laces, they are the easiest to use when I'm re-lacing a pair of shoes.

Teignbridge Trotters used to have a 10 mile race, I never ran it. But they gave it up when they took over DD as they have quite a few races to organise.

I wouldn't travel as far as GSR for a 10 miler as too crowded and expensive. Great Run keep hounding me now with emails, had 2 today.

That's good about your PT session, 5 miles could be a weary trudge after a weights session. Not bad having to skip tomorrow's core exercise 😉

Ouch, that was the toughest run I've done for a long time. 😭 Had pencilled in 7 miles but realised that wasn't going to happen with very gym sore legs, particularly my outer quads which were sore and getting more painful as my run progressed, not helped by the frosty weather which was sending my legs into shut down mode. That was my first gym leg session where I was starting to up the weights/intensity, so I'm hoping it won't be so bad next time.

Gym later 🤣 upper body today, not sure if legs will be up to the Stairmaster at end of session, may opt for the incline treadmill.

(Just googled outer quads...
The vastus lateralis is a muscle located on the lateral, or outside, part of your thigh. The muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles and is the largest muscle of that group.

The function of the vastus lateralis is to work with the other quad muscles to help extend your knee joint. It is also active in maintaining thigh and kneecap position while walking and running.

So all good, part of my knee strengthening programme.

I did manage 5+ miles, but wish I'd turned back sooner. I've pencilled in 4 miles for next Tuesday's run. 🤣

Sounds like the gym work is doing its job🙂 well done on your run.

5 miles for me around the park which is 300m so lots of laps. I started in pitch black and I had chest torch had hoped there was lighting but none. So first 20 minutes was a little slow.
Legs felt better than yesterday.

WP - good you had a better run today and are feeling better.

Quad pain has been relieved by a nice hot bath.

Ooh for a lovely hot bath but glad they helped the quads.

Will use stepper later and aim for 15 minutes.

Upper body session done at gym.

Both Stairmaster machines were free when I finished the weights but I opted for the treadmill today. 8% incline but I only lasted 10 minutes. Legs were starting to tire, and as I'm not yet comfortable on a treadmill bizarrely it was my arms that I had just trashed with the weights that were really hurting.

No gym tomorrow 😁

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
