I decided to try the new Hoka trail shoes today, and went up to Haldon and did 3 of my hilly trail loops for 10.5 miles. Really enjoyed it and felt surprisingly strong during it. Quite cold so I was in long-sleeved top and gloves for all of it but really enjoyable, and rain mainly stayed away up there. Shoes were great - comfy, good grip with the vibrum outsole and they went over the section that is quite stoney with no problem or discomfort. Briefly considered doing 4 loops (which I’m still yet to do) but decided to stop at my planned 3 loops and finish on a high.
I got a load of notifications on here as I’ve 4 ‘Fetch Miles’ set up on here on that loop and it turns out I ran faster on all of them than I had before, which wasn’t my intention at all.
The trail marathon I may be doing up there is on a different loop so I’ll try and figure that route out and may do a lap or two of that next time I’m up there, just to check it out.

WP - I did a 10 miler two weeks ago. 🙃
I quite like a 20 mile race. I would stack up more races if I could, this is me being cautious. 😅
You're on the mend, hope you're 100% by tomorrow.
Big G - that's a great run from you today. Glad the shoes are to your liking.
I remember my first pair of Hokas and loving how they comfy they were on stony paths.
Legs/glutes session done in the gym. Finish with gentle cardio on the bike, for knee mobility really. So I can use any bike I like, they have several different types. Didn't like the one I used today as it made my glutes hurt after the work I'd done on them. Only lasted 10 minutes on that bike.

Incidentally Sportsshoes have given my ARC club a discount code. Unfortunately it's the same as the EA discount so nothing like as good as previous discounts.
I blame EA.

Shades That is such a shame as a good one to have previously. I am glad stocked up on the long sleeved topswhen I did.I wore one today and it was a great fit and with the holes for hands I think my old one must have been a mens version.
I must have missed the 10 miler 2 weeks ago.
I think a 20 for marathon runners is like a 10 for half marathon runners.
Another good session hope you find a bike you like at gym.
PT for me tomorrow and a run before hand.Good job checked times of bus as 8 minutes earlier than in summer! Don't think make bus back so walk 5 miles to next village as more buses run from there.
OH having lunch in Taunton.

WP - those Higher State tops are really good. I wore on this morning too.
Yes, 10 mile race is a good distance to race, and not just for half marathoners. Unfortunately not many 10 mile races around. The 20 I'm doing has a 10 mile too. One lap for 10 miles, 2 laps for 20.
Taunton is a nice town.
That's not good about tomorrow's buses, can't you slightly adjust time of your PT session so you can get the bus home. Maybe cut your session short and add on the extra few minutes onto next week's session perhaps.

I wore one this morning as well
Just plotted out the Haldon marathon loop, which we have to do 6 times. It’s a tough route! Let’s just say it won’t be quick, or particularly pleasant, especially on the 4th/5th/6th loops. Hopefully next week, or later this week, I may go up and do a couple of loops to check it out. I’ll say it now, loud and clear - if it’s very grim weather that day, I may well just stay in bed! But if I can get to the start line, and even possibly the finish line, it’ll be an opportunity for some elevation and practice for consuming food etc, which I’ve not done for quite some time. 6hr cut off sounds generous, right!

Big G - 6 hour cut off seems generous but if it's a tough route, perhaps not so generous, won't be a problem for you, of course. Will be good DD training.
Road marathon runners tend to be more time conscious than off road runners so there might be some stragglers but I guess if the organisers want to be strict they could specify a cut off before the final lap.
What's the total elevation of the marathon?

Elevation is not on the event website although I plotted it in on strava but we know that’s not accurate. But it’s hilly, regardless. strava is saying 750ft per loop, so 4500ft for the marathon so even if it’s 1000ft out, it’s still hilly. I do know the area and there are some steep climbs. I plotted it as I wanted to have the route on my watch so I can follow it beforehand if I want.

So a band of three in higher state tops this morning🙂
Big G That sounds a tough one but good training
No not many ten milers we have the NYE race but tough one due to the hills.GSR is another and not sure about any others near to me.
Thanks for nudge I text PT and we will finish earlier this week so I can make bus.I imagine the core exercise at the end of session.
