Big G - well done, you're making good progress with your training.

WP - horrible to see a fire, hope there's no injuries.

Shoe prices won't come down again just go up. I scoured the shoe sites recently and I think there were Mizunos at very competitive prices on Sportsshoes and Start Fitness.

Big G - You’ll know as much as anyone that it’s not just a cliche that grief is different for all. Think many folks I know expect me to be curled up in a ball somewhere in a cupboard. Much as I have plenty of dark moments I’m more keen to get on with life than ever and with the girls I’ve no choice anyway. Nice parkrun.

WP - I’m a big fan of Tenby especially when it’s not high season. Nice 4.

Shades - I’d never heard of Pete Bland. A shame as I’ve just paid full price for a new pair of nimbus 🫣.

6 miles this morning. HR in the toilet which is typical pre race. No idea what to expect tomorrow with the heat. I’ve not tapered mileage this week but not done any tempos either so legs felt ok today. Will go out as just under 1:30 pace and see how I get on. I’m especially keen to test the achilles at the end of a hard longer effort as I didn’t like how they felt in the cool-down of my 20 miler last week. Could have been the old vaporflys I used though.

Rcouture - I just looked at the forecast for tomorrow and does look like it's warmed up again. I think that's the right approach, go out at 1:30 pace, see how it goes and if you want to ease up it'll still be a good speed session.

Pete Bland Sports are highly regarded, Pete Bland died during the pandemic I think but the business carries on. If you're ever up in the Lake district worth a visit as very knowledgeable staff.

No postage charges for orders over £30 and I think they use Royal Mail. Worth putting yourself on their mailing list ready for your next pair of Nimbus. 😉

Shades: I better get some or even go and look :) I have not heard anything but do not think any injuries.

Rcouture: My favorite time is out of season as far too busy for me.One of my favorite places to train and dip in the sea afterwards.

WP - I don't think there's any rush to buy up the Mizuno shoes, although I wouldn't want you to miss out on a bargain. 😉

6 miles this morning, longest run since Covid. I'd like to say it felt easy but it didn't, not helped that it was warm and humidity was in the very high 90's.

Saw my kingfisher on the way home, which revived my tiredness a bit.

Rcouture, yes, everyone has their own way of dealing with things and there is no right or wrong. Think I’ve said before, but I went for a run a couple of days after Claire died as I didn’t know what else to do! Nearly 10 years now - 20th Sept it’ll be. I yesterday booked a table at a restaurant for a few friends, plus her Dad and his partner, and my OH too, for that evening. Can’t quite believe it’s been 10 years! I still think about her every day, wondering what could/should have been, but I’ve got a great life now as well. I’m actually going up to Edinburgh soon with a group of Widowed and Young friends, as I’ve met some good friends through there - in the group there are new marriages, kids etc, but we’ve got that connection from when we met 8-10 years ago.

Rest day today. I didn’t ‘declare’ weekly mileage as I was pondering going for a second run yesterday, but didn’t. So that’s 44 for the week, so a decent week for me again.

The big half is suppose to be streamed on YouTube according Eilish.

Snap on miles this morning but mine was to be 8 but legs had nothing to give and felt hard work .Not smooth and easy at all just a chore.

Thanks you see to be the shoe queen with price and availability 😀

Big G - I can't believe it's 10 years either.

Well done on your week's mileage, have you a rough idea of what you want to peak at before NYC?

WP - yes, I sat on the supposed YouTube link for ages but couldn't get it to work. I expect there'll be a copy to watch retrospectively. I also tried the FB page but posts were from scammers.

Anyway Rcouture through 15k and doing very well.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
