Does anyone else still have a house phone just for decorative purposes and emergencies? Ours sits, blackly, like a sleeping mole, and scares the living f*ck out of us if it ever rings.

Yes, that describes our landline - also used by parents and cold callers.

I bought a replacement house phone when the old one died, and it's still in the box. I very much enjoy it not ringing. I did eventually tell the dentist & GP to only use my mobile...

We have a landline for when MiL phones us from Canada. When it rings, it's usually junk calls, rarely MiL. Unfortunately I'm right by the phone so stuck answering the damned thing.

Our landline has the ringer turned off as only cold callers and MiL use it. We leave the answerphone on and can hear any messages being left so if it was urgent we’d pick it up.

Yeah, we have answerphone permanently on, and CLI so we can see number history. Also, we're not in the directory and are registered on the TPI. Damn thing still manages to ring occasionally
