"Aims to be built" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. When I play darts I aim to score 180 but it hasn't happened yet.

It's worth noting that JET where the experiment reported today is being decomissioned and the Euratom (delayed and overbudget) replacement ITER isn't yet up and running.

And because the UK has stropped out of Euratom because you know, Brexit, we aren't part of ITER.

So "aiming" to have a commercial working reactor, without being part of the world's largest experimental team working on fusion in 16 years when no-one knows how to design and build etc a working fusion reactor is just empty words.

I'm not a betting man (where've I heard that before!), but to para-quote Toby Ziegler: I’ll bet all the money in my pockets against all the money in your pockets that there isn't a working fusion reactor by 2040.

I think it's a pretty good bet there won't be one anywhere up and running by 2040.

But I am almost certain it won't be in the UK.

It ain't 1956 any more.

I the reason I am so certain: Q: how much is it going to cost? A: We don't know.

Hi dear people who actually care about science...

How do you identify and debunk quackery, vs real science?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZsQ1FZtHw0

This one is some frequency of sound can bring blood cells back to life. My instinctive reaction is "hokum". But a quick google for Dr John Stuart Reid doesn't shout out "scammer" immediately, or looking for "sound frequency that can regenerate cells" brings up some USA NiMH results about certain frequencies possibly aiding blood flow and reducing heart rate and blood pressure.

So, how do you validate or otherwise random assertions in forums, videos or elsewhere on the internets? :-) G

Ok it appears cells in Faraday cage weren't in an incubator. What is Faraday cage for? Isn't it to protect against electromagnetic interference not sound waves. What cells are being measured? It appears it was red cells and as they are essentially sacs containing haemoglobin, what does alive mean? What are they measuring? Also Andrew Wakefield would have initially appeared like a respectable researcher in Gastroenterology on a Google search!

Ok totally gave up at the Rockefeller organisation are controlling our brains by changing concert pitch. Smacks a little of dog whistle ( pun partially intended) to me

About This Thread

I thought it would be cool to have a science thread. The idea being to share cool science that you've found out about. Or maybe to ask science questions that you don't know the answer to. Or science answers that you don't know the question to. It doesn't have to be highly complex stuff, it can just be everyday stuff that you can explain with science e.g. why do we get condensation on the inside of windows? But it can also be complex stuff. Or Youtube videos you've found ...
