Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Given it hasn't been shown to work on an experimental scale, never mind anyone developing a commerical working prototype, nor anyone even thinking about safety parameters and regulations, any talk of any commercial station is to put it bluntly, bullshitting.

To give an idea of scale, Fission was demonstrated experimentally in 1934.

The first commercial nuclear fission power plant was built in 1956.

We haven't even demonstrated it works experimentally yet.

That's not to say it's not worth doing, it is. But anyone expecting anything this side of at least 2050 is just deluding themselves.

AI still is a long way away :-)

Synthetic bullshit generation, on the other hand, has been around since Eliza. Since then I think we've learnt more about the gullibility of humans than we have about the ability of machines to behave intelligently.

lol. BS

Hinckley Point C construction began in 2016/7 and will be lucky to be completed by 2030.

And that's for a fusion design that already has been constructed at other plants (albeit always with massive cost overruns and delays).

About This Thread

I thought it would be cool to have a science thread. The idea being to share cool science that you've found out about. Or maybe to ask science questions that you don't know the answer to. Or science answers that you don't know the question to. It doesn't have to be highly complex stuff, it can just be everyday stuff that you can explain with science e.g. why do we get condensation on the inside of windows? But it can also be complex stuff. Or Youtube videos you've found ...
