I'd really like to get my Wayfarer squared away, but I suspect it's a(nother) Winter project and a more realistic option for 2024. I need to get to know her again or else my crazy plan of retiring and sailing her to the South of France via the canal network will never happen!* *Never say never, obvs |

Used to sail a lot with my Dad as a teen - on his fireball. Then he got an ISO, which is fast and fun! I've not sailed in years but would be lovely to find the opportunity again.

I’ve spent a lot of time on Apollo Duck this weekend and I blame HappyG(rrr) 100% for any unexpected outcomes … I’m seriously considering moving on from my current status of “between dinghies”! 😉

Angus Clydesdale - that sounds like a plan! I’ve heard of people motor-cruising down the waterways, but would you really do that under sail?

Ah, sorry, I've been possibly disingenuous. Unintentionally. Sailing some, but motoring most with a wee outboard that I've yet to get set up!

Aye. Loose plan is electric outboard with solar array to charge. And put-putt-puttt real slow. Tranquillement, avec du vin |

If and when you find one Angus can you post link pls? What a wonderful plan! Can uoi build living in a Wayfarer size? Or will you eat, sleep etc elsewhere? Capsize practice last night (no one to come out in Quest with me so took Feva again). 4 times over and back. Very light wind evening so ideal time to practice. G |

There’s a boom canopy/tent option with the Wayfarer, but I suspect I’d rather take a tent and pitch up ashore if sailing on inland waters. I heard at the weekend about someone who apparently sailed to Iceland in one, a whole different level of expeditioning!

Bit of a digression but I can bore for hours on sailing (as well as running)…….. Talking of capsize practice and wayfarers, I met the guy who sailed to Iceland in a Wayfarer (Steve something?). He was doing an evening ‘talk’ at a sailing/beach club in Turkey (30+ years ago). I was “as green as grass” wrt sailing back then and remember asking him nervously “what happens if you capsize on an epic trip like that?” He very modestly, and gently, replied that “you don’t capsize”. I believe that he founded the ‘Falcon Sailing’ company and spent his time sailing around Greece and Turkey looking for sites to establish his holiday bases. Eventually sold his business to Sovereign or Sunsail. Coincidentally I met him again years later on a traditional felucca that he’d built himself in the corner of a Turkish boatyard. Lovely, fascinating guy. He also sailed a Wayfarer from Greece to Egypt. |
