Ok I asked Ceal and this is what she said...

'At aged 45 yrs, I think she should be able to manage them. I remember Julian repeatedly saying that to get out of breath twice a day was a good thing to do. I did do them for a while, the reason I stopped was the whole wash my hair/shower/wash clothes thing and then having to get dinner for us both. Otherwise I found them excellent and not too delibitating. I think the idea is to do an easy run in the am then the harder/ run in the evening, ie The other thing that Julian used to recommend was to split the once a week long run into 2 runs on the same day, not every week but say once a month. I never did that for the reasons above plus it didn't fit my life style."

I hadn't taken on board that the easy /form run was the first one. So I still stand by doing form work when you are fresh.

Thanks Sharkie. Thinking about it as with all things only you know yourself well enough to decide if twice a day running fits in with your life. I think it's the faffing and changing and showering which would put me off more than the time, it's take no longer to do an hours run once a day than 2 30 min runs does it, but not the other stuff and think of the washing.

Yeah life and having one is kind of important Ultracat.
I would do form drills and strides before your shorter runs for a kick off.

Sounds like good advise and will work on the drills. I was very good and did my stretching when I finished my run today.

Finding it hard to do the step counting so have ordered a cadence counter which works with my garmin. Thought it was rather expensive, hope it's worth it.

You can get clip on ones...theoretically to clamp onto a music stand but clip to waistband just as well. :)

My husband used to overstride and he bought a metronome, it helped him increase his cadence and improve his general running form, plus his track effort times improved.

I used a metronome to sort my stride out, worked a treat.

Apart from slowing down on hills my average steps per minute is 176 with 188 on downhills. It's not going to be the case of having quicker feet, need to work on other stuff to improve form and stride length.
