I've entered the Haltwhistle Half Marathon a week on Sunday - a new course that sounded nice and fast, out and back along an old railway line that is now a path.

Got my number with some additional info through the post today, a bit surprised to read :

"The owner of the old station has kindly allowed the race to come though his private garden, but he has asked that you WALK and not run. A marshall will be present at each end of the garden and will take a note of your number if you run. Anyone who does run will be disqualified"

WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!

Just paid £25 for what I thought could be a PB course, and now find I have to walk a section............no news on how long this garden is, if it's 10 meters then could just about live with it, but if it's say 50 meters then that will be a joke.

Anyone else doing this, or ever come across anything similar ?

Wondering whether I should get in touch and ask for my money back.

Not impressed :-(

I just checked and it's the 18th September. Way too early for April fools mate ;)

That is actually ridiculous.

That's crazy, although personally depending how far round that section was I'd be happy to have a walk break.

That's hilarious. I'd run it anyway while doing a Christ pose and shouting "FREEDOM!!!". And if my Garmin says it's a PB if it's a PB, even if I'm officially DQF.

The garden detour is to avoid descending from the railway line to a river then back up a separate set of steps, for a bit of the path that is closed just before a viaduct. So will have to do it twice, on way out and on way back. It's at the half way point, so field should at least be spread out by that point.

Going to fire off an email and ask how long the garden is :-)

Cover your number with your hand and run through, using your spare hand to give a single finger salute to the marshals.
