Interesting choice of defence coach - Anthony Seibold, who was reportedly paid a million Aussie dollars by the Brisbane Broncos to leave his contract early, last year, after coaching them to their worst season in history. He's a very good coach though. Funny how insular the Aussie press are - he was being asked if he'll enjoy being out of the media limelight.

Player welfare, less impacts, less injury etc then this proposal bbc.co.uk I'm all for watching more rugby but this seems to fly in the face of looking after players, it's bare faced all about the money. |

So which three positions are they proposing dropping for 12s and what other changes to playing conditions (length of games?) And I agree, they've looked at the money coming into cricket via the franchise competitions and decided they want a piece of the action |

If Bath had a franchise it wouldn't matter what was cut out, we're equally shite all over the park. Thought I'd get in with it first 🤣😂

Also it’s 8 franchises comprising 192 players selected through an IPL style auction. So I presume it would have to be self-contained like a 7s tournament. I haven’t seen any indication on where in the world it would be staged but surely you aren’t going to see “Paris” flying to “Sydney” for a half hour game. The biggest hurdle I see is getting the respective unions & clubs to buy in. The IPL is just one country and one cricket board (the richest & most powerful board in the world) and they could just go ahead with or without the approval of the rest and with a cricket obsessed domestic audience of one billion. I’m sure there’s some differences to rugby, if only I could spot them 😂😂 |

Get rid of the front rows. Soon as the ball’s out of the scrum they just get in the way….. |

For 12s, the obvious is to drop flankers and full back (England have done this by picking Daly at 15). Stupid idea though. 7's is an appalling facsimile of the game and 10's never caught on. Less is sometimes more and adding in more and more games devalues the product - Super12/13/14/etc and whatever the expanded Tri-Nations is called has ably demonstrated this |

Much as I envy the current players earning ability in comparison to the early Pros and the "amateurs" of bygone days, the game has moved on apace. Striving to maximise income from the limited playing period the Pros of today have is certainly going to be at the expense of future health and seeking to cash in from this new initiative will only exacerbate health expectations. The list of injuries and surgeries that Sam Warburton has suffered would be enough to put any sensible person in leave of their senses to put their name forward for this extra commitment irrespective of the cash on offer IMHO. |
