A bit of a shame when Wakey are finally getting their ground sorted. And ironic that Leigh put the final nail in the coffin showing that championship clubs really can thrive in the super league.

Leigh have done well this year but all is not well in RL world. London Skolars have folded (well withdrawn from the professional ranks and will be in the amateur conference), and there are rumours that Toulouse will fold. I hope IMG have a plan beyond the super league clubs.

I must confess to being a Luddite when it come to expansion in RL, even though I haven’t lived in the north of England for over 40 years. Toronto? Really? When areas like Cumbria are a real hot bed of RL and still produce many top players, but have had no investment. I think the game should fix its own areas before pouring more money into trying to grow into areas that really aren’t interested.

"The game" really hasn't invested in say London, Toulouse or Toronto though. Individual club owners have done that. Catalans & Toulouse still have to pay for the away teams travel and were required to put up a bond to even enter the Challenge Cup. London & the SE have been producing quite a number of players for northern clubs & the England team in recent years, even more than Cumbria. What is certainly true is that post Richard Lewis, the RFL has not been very well run at all.

I agree I think the game would benefit from a Cumbrian side in the top league. I hope they can get there on playing merit rather than be gifted a place through the IMG grading system.

The difficulty has always been in persuading the locals that their clubs should merge, plus the fact that none of them have a suitable stadium. The poor road links don't help either - it's a good hour from Barrow to Workington.

As an FC fan I have mixed feelings on that. I don’t hate KR like many do but if they won the whole thing their fans would be unbearable (as I guess ours were after the challenge cup wins). A narrow defeat would have been ideal.
