Cheg
There is a big hole to fill. Work, running and sleep will have to fill the gap.

I got presale emails too. Might be from EA or because I bought tickets at 2012? Or for something else? Or maybe a pre registered ages ago? I left it a bit late but wish I'd bought some, as its ballot only now. However timing is bad, it's in August and the teens are away for most of it, so have decided not to apply. Also would have the travel/hotel issue to think of.

Fragile Do Not Bend
I got some tickets in the pre sale. I think I got the email as I had registered an interest in volunteering at 2012, even though I didn't volunteer in the end. I had wanted to volunteer at the para cycling at Brands Hatch but I couldn't make the training session. :(

I got tickets in the pre-sale....

SPOTY 2016...not murray the P stand for personality...so Mo I think as Cram said in the blurb during the race, th 5 - 10k double has only been done by 1 person and some great distance runners failed, the team of the year is a bit more difficult, I'd probably plump for Leicester, as they only just survived the year before, the women's Hockey team got a bronze in 2012 so they had that sort of 'form'.

my favourite moment is still Sophie Hitchon, british record, her best ever throw at the very last attempt,in an event we have no history in whatsoever, now or never attempt, over 10 years of training decided in a mere few seconds.

My vote for SPOTY would be either Max Whitlock or Nick Skelton.

The Teaboy
OK. I'm going to be a miserable sod. I'm kinda jaded by it all. I love sport - a lot - but this feels like the old trick of nations investing in sport to use as propaganda for the nation. Woooo, we're second! Go us! How is this different from what the Chinese have done, or the old communist states? And we're only doing this because drug testing is better? I just don't know what is real any more...

I like seeing amazing human achievement from whoever does it - regardless of nation. I guess I've just become a bit of a cynic...

And those billions spent on the Olympics and World Cup. You know, might there be better uses of the cash? It's not as if our supposed legacy has been perfectly realised either.

Chrisity
I don't care about the medal tables and nor do most of us i suspect. But i haven't had so many emotional up and downs for years as i have over the last two weeks. As a moderate sportsman across half a dozen sports in my last 50 odd years, i know how much pleasure my minor achievements have given me and how much hard work i have put into it. Multiply that by 100 for all of the athletes at the games.

Yes i would question some of the drug habits of runners and weightlifters, the honesty of some boxing judges, the backhanders and bribes behind the scenes, but i'll put up with that when i can see the sheer delight and disbelief on the face of Bryony Page, the tears and distraught demeanour of Lutalo Muhammed as he apologised for letting us down, and the unbridled joy of the Ladies Hockey Team.

It's been a great fortnight.

Excellent post, Chrisity. I pretty much agree with all that.
