Nightjar
Be much easier just to have one start 11 o.clock perhaps!

It would, but maybe that makes it too crowded.
Thinking about it, the earlier start is actually a disadvantage in terms of the light if you are fast, as you are going to be doing your latter miles in the dark when you are most tired. If you are faster, it actually makes life easier being on the later start as you get to do more of your most tired running in the daylight. If you follow....
Not sure the 'not cricket' comment is fair either way though - unless you are really up at the front you are going to be running 85 miles and running through all the hours of darkness whenever you start.
I'll be taking my watch time irrespective of whatever penalties I may or may not get!

I really don't think it matter what start you go off. By the time I've done 70 odd miles I'm sure it will register if it is night or day anyway

Thanks for your advice and comments.
I've decided to go for the 12 noon start. Looking at some past times for the event and those runner's marathon times make me think that if all goes well, I could squeeze in under 24. I don't like the idea of getting penalised for finishing early as it could remove an incentive in the last stages of the race.

I've recently trained on the first 20 miles of the route (close to me) but was wondering if there are later stages which have challenging navigation that I should head out and train on.
Also I bet the miles in the dark are easy to get lost. Where abouts on the route are we likely to be in the dark? Maybe I will go and practice that part.
Also I don't see a map or locations of the checkpoints on the TRA website. Does anyone know the locations of checkpoints?
Thanks

Oops - here's another question. I see some chat about garmins. Does anyone have garmin files of the route? However would these be useful in a race this long? My 305 battery life is down to about 6 hours!

Has anyone seen the thing that has just popped up on the runners world event planner about doing this as 3 marathons in 3 days in november?

Just had a look , got to say I'm tempted. It would be a lot cheaper for me than the Pembrokeshire coastal one would have to check whether the ton up club like it but not sure if that would influence my decision or not.
