Just returned from consultation with a cardiologist following a seizure some 4.5 months ago. Hospital was quick to highlight my low RHR (low 40's, have seen RHR of 39). At end of consultation, he had no concerns about my heart and proposes no further checks beyond a 24hr ECG tape. He presumes my low HR is because of fitness. With consultations, there's always a secondary question that never got asked. He didn't tell me to stop running, nor to train at lower intensity, but would that be a sensible approach (ie cut back on pace and/or volume?) When running, it's legs that give out rather than lack of "puff" :-)

well I may as well join the group and say that my resting (in bed first thing in the morning) rate is aroud 40-42bpm and normal resting between 45-48bpm. It has definitely lowered since doing more running, as used to be in the fifties.

Is age significant in this as well? I am 39. does older/younger have any bearing?

Low heart rate is mostly genetic!
That said, training and general fitness *wll* bring it down as well!

I'm reliable informed that there's nothing to be concerned about, and that often, people like me can live perfectly normal lives.
