A bit off topic but you lot may be able to help, at work we have shit-loads of bubble wrap and polystyrene from deliveries. Is there any way of getting shot of it in a responsible fashion? I have suggested sending it back to head office, they wont pay couriers fees for bubble wrap. No body travels in their own vehicle to head office so that I could fill said vehicle with the stuff. We don't do enough deliveries of our own to use it up. I have tried giving it away to other people on site and on Facebook without any interest. I can't bring myself to just put it in the general waste and we don't want to put it in the bio-mass for fear of fumes.
It's driving me nuts.

Any glassware companies near by such as windows? Souvenir shops? Small businesses? Picture Frame shop? E-shops? Moving companies?
Also check on Freecycle
Also would head office consider using an alternative type of padding for their packaging?

Run free, I use wood pencils. But for some reason hadn't thought of colouring pencil for highlighting. 😳
Work orders plastic pencils. It drives me bonkers and I'm trying to change the policy.
I'm in the process of organising a conference. I've banned free pens as they are shocking quality mostly. But I have ordered branded aluminium water bottles. I've told the venue I want glasses and mugs not plastic cups.

I just pick up the pens that generate by binary fission on active reception desks. When my bag gets too heavy I sneak a load of pens back on to the desk to continue their life cycle. I haven't bought a pen since I was a student.

I went to a conference where they gave us a seed/compost pellet thing in a branded aluminium pot. It was supposed to signify growth but mine didn’t germinate. Last year they gave us a (plastic) lidded coffee cup.

Medical conference freebies have diminished considerably since legislation to prevent pharmaceutical companies from buying the goodwill of doctors with anything more than a pen or keyring. My favourite freebie would be a reusable mug and endless fresh coffee for the duration of the conference. Or a practical cloth tote bag.

Gardening types may have use for polystyrene (broken up at the bottom of plantpots to help drainage) and bubble wrap (greenhouse insulation, covering seedlings in winter, home made polytunnels etc). Maybe ask at a local gardening club or allotment?

We sometimes have branded glasses cloths at work, they agree popular because they are different, useful and long lasting.
I think in general you want to give away (or take!) things that long lasting and useful. OH has some decent Google socks, and my running cap came from a conference. Also, my running bag (which I use almost every day) was a conference bag. They went with macpac 20lt backpack, and I know that I am not the only one still using it 7 years later.

Decent coffee and biscuits outweigh freebies every time!

Yes Lizzie W! A nice snack or two always wins. One of the nicest we ever had was at a conference held over Lancashire, the chef made mini Eccles cakes, oh lordy, hot out of the oven they were amazing. And only a few paper napkins used.
Sorry, I was distracted by food there for a moment...
