Potato or sweet potato wedges are good crisp replacement. I rub them with spices and olive oil before roasting.

Also, own-made dolmades and oven-baked felafels.

Rice balls.

Sliced tortilla.

We don't really entertain because our house is currently cold and messy (and I am a bit antisocial!). If we did, how about:

1. carrot sticks and hummus (a little bit more effort, but not a lot)
2. nuts (from bulk buy bins)
3. fruit (e.g. grapes, cherries)
4. politely (or otherwise!) tell people to wait until dinner and not spoil their appetite

(when we were on holiday earlier in the year, I'd get really annoyed with my FiL opening crisps and snacks things while I was cooking dinner, even if I said it was almost ready. How did he know my cooking was going to be so bad that he needed to fill up on junk first?)

Sympathy, Jenelopy! My mother is an absolute rascal for having a wee biscuit here and a wee scone there and picking and shuffling at her plate and claiming to be "full" at mealtimes then being back at the biscuits five minutes later.

Thing is as a burial you can "put anything in the coffin"
Whereas cremations have some restrictions eg no shoes!
The funeral director showed us loads of coffins including some natural ones

But it did make me ponder

We have a natural burial ground locally where you can have a tree and stuff.

My fil was buried in something like a wicker coffin, in a natural burial ground. He has a tree, but no headstone.

I have ordered milk to be delivered in glass bottles :) It will be very nostalgic.
