Wow that’s terrific but not really surprising for such a lovely man. Maybe need to keep some back for future upkeep.

Wonder if his family can think of somewhere he who like a donation sent to in his memory

Refurb the bench with gold trim and a VIF* section.

Unsurprising, but still great to see so much raised for a great guy.

*Very Important Fetchies, obviously :)

Not surprised by that.

What do Fetchies think about a Swittle bursary? Maybe holding some funds that people could apply for to help them take part in a race they’d really like to do? Maybe to contribute to travel or accommodation costs?

It would need managing though.

I think it would be very difficult to allocate funds to applications from potentially hundredss of fetchie applicants and extremely difficult to assess who is in need. But maybe there could be a one-off fetch event in his memory down his way, passing the bench (everything is "down" to me) and the funds could support that, perhaps with some catering and maybe support for bus fares to get people there and home?

I had a similar idea. I think there are some Fetchies organising a mile and hiring a running track. I wondered if the money could be used to cover the track hire.

But I'm just one equal voice here - happy to go with what the majority think.

I like the idea of an one-off memorial event in Swittle's part of the country.

Whilst I like the bursary idea which seems very in keeping with the man Swittle was, it would place an unfair and indeed impossible , administrative burden onto Fetch and would be unmanageable.
A Swittle mile sounds ideal

About This Thread

Maintained by Lip Gloss
Never met him in person but always came across as a lovely man.

If you read about his nightly beach runs you could almost have been running along beside him.

He always encouraged others especially on the How was your run thread.

Hope all your beach run are still as perfect as they were while you were here xx
